　　表面上，阿尔及利亚人仍然顺从着法国人的统治，而民族解放阵线已经渗透到这个城市的每个角落，更重要的是，他们得到了民众的支持。一个叫阿里的首领用一种严密的组织方式开展着他们针对法国人的暗杀行动，这个组织的每一个人只有一个上司和他发展的两个下线，这样，一旦某个链条出了问题，整个组织却不会被根除，因为你只认识三个人，其他的人你都不认识。在行动中你会得到不认识的人暗中相助，他们会悄悄塞给你一支手枪或是一个炸弹。这个被法国人称为“无限增长的虫子”的组织让占领者吃够了苦头。警察被暗杀、酒馆被炸，而法国人根本找不到凶手。因为他们就是那些缠着头巾的女人，他们就是那些懵懂的孩子，他们就是那些本分的果农，他们都是，但他们又都不是，他们拿起枪就是战士，放下枪就是平民。
